Happy Spring Equinox

As we stand on the verge of the Vernal Equinox, known as the Spring Equinox to us northern hemisphere-ers, we add another dimension to the meaning of this bi-annual event this year.

As the sun crosses the celestial equator, heading north, this is one of only two times each year when day and night are of equal length.

In the grand scheme of time, it is a moment of balance between light and dark with light on the winning side as daylight starts to lengthen.

The majority of us will not be out and about this equinox. We will not be gathering with our people to celebrate and socialize and the irony of this is that this self-imposed isolation is being done in the spirit of social consciousness.

We are caring for each other by avoiding each other to limit the spread of COVID-19. We are looking out for people we don't even know, have never met and probably never will. We are caring for the very young, the elderly and the sick and, if we are one of these people, others are caring for us.

Spiritually, we view the spring equinox as an opportunity to look inward and create personal balance.

Where, in your life do you need balance?

Where, in your body, your mind, your spirit do you need it?

How would you like to shine?

I like to begin with a meditation, bringing light into my body, first on one side, then the other, finally merging them.

I then start at my root chakra and work my way up through the sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and finally crown chakra, opening each one and feeding each one precious light.

This equinox is also a time of resurrection and renewal. A ritual I like is to plant a seed that represents something I want to bring into my life (dill is easy to grow, is delicious and is a good protective herb).

Remember to water it. You need to do your part to manifest your wishes.

The sun crosses the equator at 11:50 pm Eastern Time tonight and while it will be dark in my time zone when that happens, I know the light is here.

Have a happy and safe spring equinox.
