Happiness

We all have comfort things. For me it's bookstores and pizza.

Grab a latte (oh yeah, and coffee) and wander through book titles for as long as I want, making mental notes of all the books I must read at some point in my life.

Maybe the reason a particular book jumps out at me is because I need to learn that book's message right now but I am trying to cultivate patience and not spend my money all at once. (insert laughter here)

As I stare out the window, trying to remember the point I want to make, here it is.

Books are one of the things that make me feel happy and feeling happy makes me feel GOOD.

Okay, Captain Obvious.

Feeling happy starts on the inside and radiates outwards, lighting me up from the inside out. It strengthens my sense of well-being, energizes me and cleans my aura, helping to shake off any slimey patches of negativity.

Happy is my feel good place.

Without going all PollyAnna on you, it's impossible to

feel happy 24/7. This is one of the requirements of our contract with life and, incidentally, why we are equipped with a selection of emotions to choose from.

No matter what, though, I like to keep happiness as my baseline. Picture it as a river, flowing under all the other emotions that pop up during the day, tempering them and keeping things flowing.

Enough with the colourful analogies. Again, practicing happiness, like anything, is hard at first and with time and lots of practice, it becomes easier.

Start with laughter

Reiki helps. Think of reiki as a river of energy, helping to keep you flowing.

I believe that sadness, tempered with happiness, reminds you that this too , shall pass.

Anger, tempered by happiness, prevents you from lashing out violently.

Fear, tempered by happiness, might help put those fears in perspective.

This is not an easy thing to do. Depression, anxiety, PTSD and all other mental illnesses are bona fide illnesses that need professional help that include medications, therapy and support.

One thing I like to do is send happiness, quietly so no one else can see, to people who I think could use some.

That is my way.

On my sad says, I hope someone would do the same for me.

One more thing.....

Re-read this blog and replace any word that has 'happy' in it with the word 'love'.

Does that change anything for you?
