It's Time for a Paradigm Shift

Today I got a flat tire.

As my daughter and I were leaving a restaurant where we had lunch, I asked her to quickly check the tires on the passenger side of my car while I checked the driver's side; my pre-driving routine.

Seeing the frown on her face, I took a look and there it was.

Not just a flat tire but a spectacular flat tire.

A handsome young man from CAA arrived in ten minutes; tire changed and a slow, safe drive home.

But, on my drive home

I wondered what my other two 'bad' things were going to be because bad things happen in three's right?

So here it is; I do not want two more bad things and I especially do not want to waste my time and energy waiting, worrying and expecting more bad things. Why do we have to have three of them anyway? Do good things happen in three's as well?

It seems to me that waiting for three bad things is feeding into a culture of negativity and fear by focusing on the 'bad', so here is my resolution going forward:

-1 (negative) plus +1 (positive) = 0 (neutral)

In other words, It takes one positive event to cancel out a negative event.

Try it.

The next time something negative happens me, I will be on the lookout for something positive to cancel the negative.

There will be no more searching for negative things until I have three of them and there will be more optimistic searching for that positive things in my day.

I hear you. Right now you are saying "what about the opposite; if a good thing happens I'm going to look for the bad".

Here is the beauty of it: there are so many more good things, good events, in my life than bad.

There are in yours too.

By the way, I had a lovely visit with my father, and lunch with my beautiful daughter that same day.

Amazing.
